Rev. Trevor Kirkland – the speaker at this
year's Conference

2016 Spring Conference

Date: Friday, 05 February 2016
Author: Rev David M Blunt

The 2016 Spring Conference is due to take place in Inverness on Friday 25th March (D.V.). The venue once again is Kingsview Christian Centre (kindly loaned), which is located on Balnafettack Road in the Kinmylies area (IV3 8TF). All are most welcome.

The subject for this year's conference is The Shorter Catechism. We believe that this is a very worthwhile topic. The Shorter Catechism (see here) was drawn up by the Westminster Assembly which met from 1643-48. It was approved by the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1648 “to be a directory for catechising such as are of a weaker capacity.” It has 107 questions and answers which taken together present a concise summary of the historic Christian faith. In a day of gross spiritual ignorance studying the Catechism is of benefit to individual Christians and of assistance to the Church in many ways, two of which are highlighted in the two Conference sessions: 'Preserving the People of God' and 'Building the People of God'.

The Conference runs from 10.00am to 4.00pm and the speaker at both sessions is Rev. Trevor Kirkland. Mr Kirkland was born into a farming family in Co. Antrim. He studied for an honours degree at university prior to going into the ministry. In 2002 he was appointed to the Committee of the Trinitarian Bible Society and he is a founder member of the Northern Ireland Committee of the TBS. Following more than twenty years in the ministry he was admitted into the Free Church of Scotland (Continuing) and presently ministers in the Ballyclare & Doagh congregation, north of Belfast.

A brochure and booking form for the Conference is attached, giving directions to the venue and providing details of the programme. We encourage you to download the form and to consider attending. God willing, in addition to the two Conference addresses, two brief sessions for Psalmody will be included, and a bookstall will be available. There is the option of a buffet lunch. It is planned that there will be a creche and a separate teaching programme will be provided for children of primary school age. We trust that the Lord will bless the teaching and fellowship to all who attend.

If you require any further information please get in touch with the Booking Secretary Mr Lindsay MacCallum.
