A farewell service and presentation were arranged by the Ayr FC(C) congregation to mark the departure of their minister Rev. Gavin Beers and his family. Mr Beers has accepted a Call to Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Mebane, USA, and will be inducted into his new charge on the 4th of May. The farewell service was held at 7 Lyndsay Street, Ayr, last Saturday.

Retired FC(C) minister and former Ayr Interim Moderator Rev. John J Murray led the service preaching from Psalm 132.

After the formal part of the afternoon the Knightswood FC(C) minister Rev. William Macleod, representing the Southern Presbytery, paid tribute to Mr Beers’ gifts and usefulness. Ayr Treasurer Mr Stuart Mackay then thanked Mr Beers and his family for their time in Ayr and called upon his wife Liz and Mrs Nanette Millar, wife of Ayr elder Rev. Dr James Millar, to present gifts to Mr & Mrs Beers and their family.

Mr Beers then addressed the gathering thanking the Ayr congregation for their gifts and support over his twelve-year pastorate.

Rev. Andrew R Allan, Partick, who has been appointed Interim Moderator, was called upon to address the gathering, pledging the congregation of his aim to see the congregation settled with a minister of their choosing as soon as possible.
Finally, Mr Murray brought the proceedings to a close and after the giving of thanks and benediction the sizeable gathering spent some time in fellowship and partook of a delightful finger buffet and refreshments prepared by the ladies.
