The Free Church of Scotland (Continuing) welcomed a new minister at its Commission of Assembly on Tuesday 6th October.

Rev Iain Smith, who is from Point, Isle of Lewis, completed his studies at the Free Church College in 1994 and was ordained and inducted as minister of Partick Free Church that year. He left Glasgow in 2003 when he was called to the Southern Presbyterian Church in Hobart, Tasmania.

The Training of the Ministry & Admissions Committee interviewed Mr Smith earlier in the day and forwarded his application to the Commission of Assembly with the recommendation that it be accepted. The Commission agreed to admit him as an ordained minister of the Free Church of Scotland (Continuing) with effect from his signing of the Formula to be arranged by the Outer Hebrides Presbytery. Following the signing Mr Smith’s name will be placed on the register of ministers eligible for a call.

Mr Smith, who is a Gaelic speaker, is married to Mary and they have two grown-up sons.
