Shettleston Induction Report

Well over 150 persons attended the Ordination of the Rev James S Haram and his Induction into the pastoral charge of Shettleston Free Church (Continuing), Glasgow, last Saturday afternoon.

The Moderator of Southern Presbytery Rev James I Gracie, Edinburgh, led the proceeding and preached from Acts chapter 8 and drew three points from verse 5, 1. Divine Providence, 2. Chosen Messenger and 3. Unique Message.

Afterwards Revs Harry J T Woods, Beauly, Maurice J Roberts, Inverness, and John W Keddie, Kirkhill, both retired, were associated with the Presbytery and Mr. Haram was duly and solemnly Ordained into the Holy Ministry and Inducted by the Moderator. Having received the right hand of fellowship Mr. Haram was then addresses appropriately by retired minister Rev John J Murray. Ayr minister Rev Gavin Beers spoke to the congregation reminding them of the duties, privileges and responsibilities from Ephesians chapter 4.

Following the Benediction Mr & Mrs James & Shael Haram greeted people as they left the church to make their way to the welcome fellowship which was held in nearby Kenmuir Mount Vernon Church halls.

Many attended the fellowship and enjoyed a sumptuous spread prepared by the Shettleston ladies. After the refreshments several greetings were read out by Rev Andrew R Allan, Partick, interim moderator. Presentations were made to Mr. & Mrs Haram and family by Shettleston elders David Keddie and Alan Wilson and their wives Ruth and Angela respectively. Session Clerk Ewan Wilson followed by making a presentation to Mr. Allan while Mr. Allan’s wife Debbie received a bouquet from Angela Wilson.

Mr Allan then handed over proceedings to Mr. Haram who called upon Mr. Woods and Rev Murdo MacIver to address the gathering.

To draw the proceedings to a close Mr. Haram gave a comprehensive vote of thanks and closed the fellowship with prayer.
