The 2021 General Assembly of the Free Church of Scotland (Continuing) will commence on Monday 24th May 2021 at 6pm, D.V.
Due to the continued effects of the Coronavirus Covid-19, the meetings will again be held using a teleconferencing format. Members of the public will be able to access it via Facebook and YouTube and the links are given below.
The Assembly will begin with opening devotions and an address by Rev. William Macleod, Moderator of the 2020 General Assembly. After this, the Assembly will be constituted and will take up the usual business of the first Sederunt, including the election of a new Moderator and the Report of the Assembly Arrangements & Nominations Committee.
The Assembly will meet again on Tuesday at 11am when, amongst other items, the new Moderator will give an address. This will be followed by Reports on Finance and Publications. Tuesday evening will include the Youth Committee Report and the usual focus on Missions. We expect to hear from a variety of those involved in mission including Rev. Partheepan from Sri Lanka and Rev. Jorge Ruiz Ortiz from Spain.
The first hour on Wednesday will be given over to devotional exercises followed by a focus on matters relating to the moral and spiritual wellbeing of the nation, as the Committee on Public Questions, Religion & Morals bring in their Report. It will highlight important issues such as the worrying developments on Hate Crime and Gender issues, and our response to the pandemic. For those wishing further information a copy of the draft agenda is available at the link below.
We would call on the Lord’s people to remember in prayer the business of the Assembly and those most involved in its work. Meeting by electronic means brings different challenges and difficulties, and we must look to the Lord to graciously assist us and bless our endeavours. “Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.” (Zechariah 4:6)
