New Daily Readings Book
Rev James Clark, minister of Inverness-Greyfriars FC(C), has produced a small 63 page book, ‘Daily Readings for the Depressed’.
Mr. Clark wrote in the Preface, "Regarding depression, some reasons are known, many are not. The concept of “depression” is not in the creed of many professing Christians. It is a happy gap in their experience. But it is in the experience of others. In writing this booklet we follow the example of the apostle Paul in pastoral theology."
He went on to note, "The aim of this little book is to daily encourage those who are deeply ‘cast down’ on life's journey. DV there will be more readings to come. We are not home yet and we need all the encouragement we can get."
Also from the Preface, “The mind can descend far lower than the body, for in it there are bottomless pits…Quite involuntarily, unhappiness of mind, depression of spirit and sorrow of heart will come upon you. You may be without any real reason for grief, and yet may become the unhappiest of men.” C. H. Spurgeon
Given that depression is a subject we hear a lot about today the book is to be seen as a useful resource for those suffering from it, and for those who seek to help those under depression. It is hoped that a follow-up book will appear next year DV.
