Portree Missionary Meeting

Date: Thursday, 18 May 2017
Author: Rev Richard R Ross

The Presbytery of Skye and Lochcarron were delighted to welcome the Rev Shanmugam Partheepan for a Missionary meeting last night.

Rev Shanmugam N V Partheepan, a native of Sri Lanka, studied at the Free Church Seminary from 2007 to 2011 and was ordained to the pastoral ministry in 2011 for missionary service in Sri Lanka.  The Mission began in 2012 and is based in Vavuniya, a large town in the Northern Province.

The meeting was held in Portree and began with worship.  Rev Partheepan then gave an encouraging account of the Lord’s cause in Sri Lanka.  He told how the work at Vavunyia was progressing well and that they had been able to buy land and start building a place of worship there.   He spoke about a developing work in Mullaitheevu, which now has services of worship twice on the Lord’s Day.  He also mentioned the Sabbath school which has about forty children attending and receiving instruction in the Scriptures every week.

He thanked us for our prayerful support and exhorted us to continue to remember the work in prayer.

Rev Richard Ross, Portree, speaking on behalf of the Home and Foreign Missions Committee, urged the folk to remember the work in prayer, and also appealed for greater financial support for the work in Sri Lanka.  The meeting was closed with the singing of Psalm 72: 7-11, and Mr Donald Robertson, Resident Lay Agent, led in prayer.

Mr. Partheepan will be speaking at a similar Missionary meeting to be held at Inverness-Greyfriars Westhill Church, Culloden Road, Westhill, Inverness, IV2 5BP, on Friday 19th May at 7:30pm with refreshments following.
